Giant Food of Landover, Md. announced today the Giant Food store located in the O Street Market at 1414 Eighth Street, NW in Washington, D.C. will close on Thursday, September 8 at 6 p.m. The 35,000-square-foot store is closing to make way for City Market at O, a development project which will include a new 72,000-square-foot Giant Food store. The new store is projected to open in 2013.

 

To serve the Shaw community in the interim, Giant has arranged for free shuttle bus service to the Tivoli Giant beginning Thursday, September 8. The shuttle will pick passengers up outside of the Gibson Plaza apartments, located at 1301 7th Street, NW, and drop off at the Tivoli Giant, located at 1345 Park Road, NW. The free shuttle bus will run on the following days and times:

“We regret any inconvenience closing the O Street Market Giant will cause but are proud to offer complimentary shuttle service to our Tivoli Giant in Columbia Heights,” said Don Sussman, interim president of Giant Food of Landover, Md. “We very much look forward to serving the Shaw community with our new Giant that will be part of City Market at O, the mixed-use development that is currently underway.”

 

Currently, the O Street Market Giant employs 29 full-time and 87 part-time associates, all of whom will be given opportunities to transfer to other Giant locations.
