Latino/Hispanic Leaders Target End of HIV/AIDS Epidemic

From Mercy Padilla Cirino: On the eve of the XIX International AIDS Conference – AIDS 2012 – leading researchers, experts and leaders will convene in Washington, DC, on Sunday, July 22, for the Latino/Hispanic HIV Community Research Forum:Creando Una Red Para Un Futuro Sin VIH/SIDA.

The research forum will set the stage for Latino/Hispanic events at AIDS 2012. This full-day work session will feature prominent researchers, community leaders, and youth converging to share cutting-edge scientific information and to address unique factors associated with Latinos at risk of HIV infection.

The forum is the largest satellite meeting organized by Latino leaders at AIDS 2012, and it is a critical event for representatives of groups working with Latino/Hispanic communities affected by HIV. Discussions are expected to highlight community-based participatory research efforts related to prevention, outreach, testing, and treatment. Experts are scheduled to disseminate the most up-to-date information on current Latino HIV/AIDS rates and effective prevention efforts in the United States.

The overarching goal of the research forum is the development of a Latino-focused network of HIV/AIDS researchers, service providers, and community leaders to build Latino-centered research collaborations. Interactive elements of the research forum program will allow participants to share resources, strategies, and best practices to employ in the fight against rising rates of new infections among Latino communities, in an effort to end this epidemic.

The research forum itself is crucial to ensuring that Latino/Hispanic communities are well represented, engaged, and heard during the International AIDS Conference in Washington, DC.

The Latino/Hispanic HIV Community Research Forum: Creando Una Red Para Un Futuro Sin VIH/SIDA is set for Sunday, July 22, at the Renaissance Washington DC Downtown Hotel, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The event is free of charge and open to the public.
