9th Annual HBCU College Festival

From Alfred Street Baptist Church:

ALEXANDRIA, VA. —   Alfred Street Baptist Church in Old Town Alexandria will host its 9th annual Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) College Festival.   Due to the popularity and growth of the college festival, the venue has been changed to T.C. Williams High School located at 3330 King Street in Alexandria, VA.  All are invited to come out on Saturday, February 19th from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. as we “March to the Beat of Our HBCUs.”  This particular college festival ranks as one of the most successful and better organized events of its kind.   Representatives from over 50 HBCUs will be on hand to meet with students, parents and counselors.

DC Public Charter School Recruitment Expo January 8, 2011

Are you looking for a charter school for your child? Then don’t miss the D.C. Charter School Recruitment Expo on Saturday, January 8th, 2011 from noon – 4:00pm at the Washington Convention Center. It will be a one-stop opportunity to learn about the diverse array of charter school options available in Washington, D.C..  Come and meet the school leaders of the 52 charter schools. 

Teachers are encouraged to attend to see what teaching opportunites are available.

Search Party Volunteers Needed this Sunday for Missing Dog

In October 2010, life seemed to be turning around for a 90-pound English Mastiff named Olivia.  Rescued by A Forever Home Foundation (AFH), it seemed apparent that she was fought, bred, and abused in her prior home, leaving her terrified of most human interaction.  AFH foster mother Laura Colleton recalls that “her biggest challenge is that…everything in the outside world is new and scary to her. I have never cared for a more needy, vulnerable dog.”

If you're like most people in the DC area, right now you are hating this bitter bitter cold weather.  I'm with you!!

One way to fight these winter blues is with fun activities.  DC's home grown bocce ball league has the answer for you, with their indoor leagues.  The Capitol Hill (Wednesday) division plays at the PourHouse and American Legion.  And the Adams Morgan (Tuesday) division plays at Tom Tom on 18th Street. Game times are after work, starting at 6:30, 7:15, 8:00 and 8:45 pm.
