City Officials Hold Ribbon Cutting Ceremony At Renovated Mt. Pleasant Library

D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray and other city officials gathered at Mt. Pleasant Library on Wednesday for a ribbon cutting ceremony after it underwent an $11.2 million renovation project.

The library located at 3160 16th Street NW opened its doors in 1925 and is the third-oldest operating Library in D.C. The renovation project, which began in April of 2010, includes improvements like:  a new layout, improved lighting, upgraded electrical and HVAC systems.

“With every historic library we improve, we discover some hidden gem that we can’t wait to showcase,” said D.C. Public Library (DCPL) Chief Librarian Ginnie Cooper. “This library is no exception. Not only have we improved the service that we can provide to library users in this building, but we have enhanced the original library’s design and found a way to celebrate a Washington artist.”

Mt. Pleasant Library will host a grand-opening party on Saturday, Sept. 15 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
